Bob O’Shea
Bob O’Shea has been an active member of the BPIF for almost 40 years. He was possibly the longest serving member of the Education & Training Committee until it was overtaken by the PGC National Training Organisation of which he was a member. In the early 1980’s he was National Chairman of the YMP organisation and, subsequent to that, became sometime chairman of the BPIF Graduate Recruitment Programme. He is concerned with and  a member of the Print Sector Industry Group of Proskills.  

He is currently Chairman of Kerenza J Ltd; a family owned small facsimile book production company, Chairman of J W Arrowsmith Ltd, Bristol, a Director of Marston Book Services Ltd and of Oxfordshire Media Network Ltd. He continues as Chairman of the BPIF’s Digital Interest Group and is Chairman of the BPIF South Western Region. 

Per Klavsen
Head of Professional Solutions Marketing for Europe, Professional Print, Canon Europe Ltd.
Appointed to the role of Head of Professional Solutions Marketing for Europe in 2004, Per brings with him strong industry knowledge. He has overall responsibility within Canon Europe for professional print, which includes marketing, business development, solutions and wide format printing. Per also leads key professional print initiatives across sales and service. His strengths are a strong track record in sales, marketing and management throughout Europe.
Prior to joining Canon, Per was located in Heidelberg, Germany working for NexPress as European Business Development Manager and was responsible for sales support across Europe.
Previously at EFI (Electronics for Imaging), based in Amsterdam, Per developed his European experience in different sales and management roles. His last role at EFI was pan European Account Manager with responsibility for Xerox in Europe.
Andy Middleton
Andy Middleton was appointed to the position of Commercial Director, HP Indigo Digital Press for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) in July 2004. His responsibilities include driving market share increase through new customer acquisition and the development of printed page volume within the commercial and industrial printing market of the graphic arts industry.
Widely experienced in both frontline direct sales and distribution of graphic arts products, Andy worked for Indigo from 1994 and subsequently for HP Indigo Digital Press (IDP) in various roles. For over four years he successfully developed the Indigo business with channel partners in Europe and the Middle East. In January 1999 he took on the role of General Manager of Indigo Germany which included sales responsibilities in Austria and Switzerland. More recently Andy was head of all international distribution channels for HP IDP Worldwide.
Ian Lacey
Director, Deixis LTD.
Formerly a lecturer in microelectronics and digital systems, Ian is a technologist with some 22 years experience in both commercial and defense industries. Most recently as Head of IT for a UK public telecommunications provider he developed, in collaboration with an award winning UK digital print company, new workflow solutions for the production of full color graphical telephone bills. This collaboration led to the formation of UK digital print technology company and PODi general member Deixis, of which he is currently a director.
John Godwin
In his formative years he gained his industry knowledge in Operations Management on large IBM systems mainly in the educational field at London University. Using this knowledge he moved to the sales environment before being asked to start the Siemens laser printer business in the UK in 1984. He took Siemens from an unknown position in the high speed printing market to a status that was equivalent to Xerox and IBM. He was then actively involved in the Siemens / Oce takeover before becoming a director of Oce in their new printing division. In 2000 he took up the newly created role of European Sales Director of Scitex Digital Printing to move Scitex into the new world of high speed digital colour. In 2004 he become European Sales Director of Kodak Versamark in the New Digital Kodak when they purchased Scitex Digital Printing.
Ellis Watson
Managing Director of Menzies Distribution and former Managing Director of Mirror Newspapers, charged with turning around five national and 240 regional titles.
He was previously MD at Celador International, with responsibility for commercial sales of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? The phenomenally successful show has been licensed in more than 100 countries with over 300 consumer products.
Ellis was originally Marketing Director for The Sun and News of the World, reporting directly to Rupert Murdoch. He helped reverse a decline in sales and launched a number of cutting edge initiatives, from Books for Schools to interactive games and brand extensions.
Sally Cartwright
Sally Cartwright is Publishing Director of HELLO! magazine, and has held that job since 1990, shortly after the magazine’s launch. She has been involved with the celebrity magazine marketplace since HELLO! created it with its launch in 1998. That market is still the fastest-growing sector in women’s magazines, with 6 titles now published, and a total weekly sales level for those magazines of around 2,500,000 copies.
Prior to that, she was Managing Director of Harmsworth Publications (a subsidiary of Associated Newspapers), and earlier a publisher with IPC Magazines.
She is responsible for all commercial aspects of the magazines, and is its usual representative to the public, whether on television, radio or in person.
Sally is the ex-Chairman of the Periodical Publishers Association, the first woman ever to hold the post, and was awarded an OBE in 2001 for her services to the magazine industry. She is active in a number of industry areas, and chairs the Environmental Committee for the magazine business worldwide.
 
Frank Steenburgh
Frank is senior vice president, business growth of Xerox Corporation's Production Color Business. He was named to the position in July 2003. He was appointed a corporate officer in May 1998.
As senior vice president, business growth, he has responsibility for growing Xerox's production business, with a strong focus on production color.
Frank joined Xerox in 1967 and has held various sales and marketing management positions. Most recently, he was senior vice president and general manager for the production color business. Prior to that he was senior vice president in charge of the company's worldwide graphic arts industry business and senior vice president and general manager for Xerox's e-service business.
Frank has received numerous recognitions in the Graphic Arts industry including the Power of Communications award from the Association of Graphic Communications, the Print-on-Demand Pioneer award from Cygnus Business Media and the CARY Award from Rochester Institute of Technology, the premier Graphic Arts school in the world. He has authored graphic arts articles and promoted educational programs in digital printing technology.
 
Barry Hibbert
Barry Hibbert was appointed Chief Executive of the Polestar Group in August 2001, representing a return to the Group as Barry had worked for Polestar from 1993 until 1998, initially as Managing Director of Polestar's Publications group of companies, He joined the main Board in 1997, before leaving to establish a new software business in Europe. Previously, Barry was a director of Harman International Inc, where he championed quality and production improvements in the USA and Europe, winning an award from the DTI for process innovation. A graduate engineer, who also obtained his MBA in 1994, Barry has also held senior positions with Olivetti and Carlton Communications.
Barry was a founder member of the Vision in Print initiative with the DTI, and is now Honorary Vice Chairman. In March 2004, he was appointed a non-executive director of the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF), and in September of that year was appointed a director of the European Rotogravure Association (ERA).
 
Ian Hislop
Ian has edited Private Eye since 1986, taking over the helm from Richard Ingrams and steered it to commercial success.
He is known to millions as the losing team captain on the cult BBC quiz show Have I Got News For You? which has won numerous awards including a BAFTA for Best Light Entertainment.
Ian began as a scriptwriter for Spitting Image, and went on to write sketches for Harry Enfield and television plays for Maureen Lipman and Dawn French. Most recently he has co-written the ground- breaking family sitcom, My Dad’s the Prime Minister.
Ian was honoured to receive the British Society of Magazine Editor’s highest award, the Editor’s Editor.
Mike Hancock
Mike is Managing Director of Pira International Ltd. Since joining Pira in 1977 he has been a member of the senior management team building the organisation into a leading international management and technical consulting business serving the printing & publishing, packaging and paper & board sectors.
He lectures frequently to international audiences on strategic and technology issues relating to paper, printing and packaging.
Catherine Hearn
Catherine Hearn joined the Polestar Group on 1st July 2002 from Diageo plc. She is based with other main board directors at the Group’s Milton Keynes headquarters. Catherine originally joined Guinness Brewing in June 1996 as Employee Relations and Policy Director. She later became Human Resources Director for some of the Guinness international markets. With the integration of Guinness Brewing and UDV, Catherine was appointed HR Director of Diageo Business Services, where she has been instrumental in steering a complex and challenging programme to redesign business processes and establish a new business services centre in Budapest.
Prior to joining Guinness Brewing, Catherine held a number of personnel management roles during ten years at ICL. Her experience also includes seven years at London Transport.
Lars Fredrickson
Lars has been active in the printing industry since 1963. After some years as an offset printer he managed production, developing new technical solutions in prepress and printing.
In 1984 he became the managing director of Tryckindustri, a family owned, full service sheet-fed printing company in Sweden with annual sales of 2.7 million euros. Since then he has developed the business not only in printing, but also in graphic design, electronic publishing, logistics and communication. Thanks to a mix of start-ups and acquisitions, the annual growth was close to 15 percent for more than ten years.
The group, which became very profitable, is now called Intellecta and it is a public company with annual sales of 40 million euros. Intellecta’s business concept is Integrated Communication and the group consists of 8 small or medium sized companies in printing, Internet solutions and strategic communication in Sweden and Denmark.
Although he has now left his position as CEO of Intellecta AB (publ) he is still one of the main owners and keeps a position as non-executive director, business mentor and interim manager.
Lars is now president of the Swedish Graphic Companies’ Federation. He is also president of Intergraf, Brussels and a board member of the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and previously he was a board member of the Swedish institute of research & development.
James Shand EDP
James has been involved with IT technology for more than 30 years working in a number of Service Bureau environments. He was responsible for the introduction of laser printing technology into the data centre with Xerox 9700s in the late 70’s making it the first mainframe switchable facility in Europe, which led to the creation of a business unit providing application outsourcing for clients.
After 24 years in the Service Bureau industry James created his own consultancy business, Paper Jungle Limited. He provided strategic management to organisations around the document as a communications channel. In May 2000 he became part of the MBO for edotech - part of Barclays Bank, which became one of the fastest growing companies in the UK developing its client base from £20 million ($37m) turnover in 2000 to some £80 million ($149m) in 2004. In April 2004 edotech was acquired by the Astron Group for £130m making it the largest UK provider of transactional solutions specialising in the financial and telecoms markets.
edotech were strong supporters of EDSf (Electronic Document Systems Foundation) for a number of years and James is currently one of its Advisory Directors.
Chris Martin
Chris Martin has worked in the print and systems sector for over 20 years. He has held a number of directorships in both start up and established B2B and B2C companies. His key skills lie in business development, marketing and large scale project management.
Chris spent 5 years establishing and managing Moore IMS (UK subsidiary of Moore Corp.) which focussed solely on colour digital print and collateral management systems – customers included Thomson Holidays, Centrica , AA, Viking Office Supplies and Tektronix..
He now runs Syntax 121 a specialist consultancy providing advice and resources on digital print and customised marketing projects. Syntax works with vendors, service providers and end users to maximise their returns from colour digital print and relationship marketing initiatives.
Dennis Turner
Dennis is the Chief Economist of HSBC Bank plc. His role involves advising lending bankers on economic trends not only at national level, but also on industries and regions.
Before joining Midland Bank in 1978, he worked for four years in Whitehall, for the National Economic Development Office. This was during the Labour government’s Industrial Strategy Initiative, which was an attempt to improve the performance of the UK’s manufacturing sector. His first job on leaving university (Swansea and University College, London) was as an economist for a national trade union. Here he was responsible for the preparation of pay claims, arbitration cases and the union’s submission to various statutory bodies set up under Edward Heath’s Industrial Relations Act.
Mike Taylor
Born 1947 in Wallasey Cheshire, the son of a print buyer. Educated at Thames Valley Grammar School, Twickenham and later at London College of Printing.
Worked as a management trainee in a printing company and later as a print buyer for a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Formed Fulmar Colour Printing Co Ltd in 1971 at the age of 24 using a £4,000 loan from his father. Expanded the business by both organic growth and acquisition and took the business public in 1996.
Fulmar plc stands at number 39 in the Printweek top 500 and employs over 400 staff, achieving a turnover in excess of £40m and is profitably engaged in the fields of book printing, reports and accounts, corporate brochures and advertising literature.
The Fulmar Group regularly achieves awards success and has received the highest accolades from both Printweek and Printing World on several occasions. Mike consistently places in the top 10 of the Printweek Power 100 and recently was placed 4th behind Caxton in the all time printers list!
A recent Printweek poll for Directors of the "Ultimate Printing Company" found Mike appointed as Chairman by popular vote.
On being advised of his new position he retorted that he intended to be both "Executive" Chairman and operate in a very "hands on" way.
